2007 Villa Maria Reserve Marlborough Riesling. Almost clear in the glass, the nose explodes with fine citrus and sherbet aromas. The palate is fine and talcy, mouth watering and as clean as a mountain stream. Flavours of fine ripe lemon and lime tingle the palate back with a lush texture. A fine acid spine provides focus and gentle direction. The fruit is very delicate and searching. The flavours linger and transform onto a long long persistant finish. This is classy and benchmark Marlborough Riesling. It is elegant, poised and gentle. A sophisticated and formal wine which is tightly bound and promises to give up more over the coming 3-5 years. Excellent 97+/109
