2008 Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc. New Zealand’s most famous wine label, the one that put us on the map. The 2008 vintage is a very unassuming vintage of Cloudy Bay, one that would easily be lost in a line up, but one that is attractive and drinking well already. The nose displays ripe tropical fruits and guava/ gooseberry. The palate displays soft and ripe acids, seamless flavours of guava, ripe gooseberry and a slight stoniness. My impression is this is made with 100% ripe fruit. There is no overt herbaceousness or underlying under ripeness. The class of this wine is definitely there for those who look for it. It has fantastic purity. It is clean and defined and subtle complexities provide a lot of interest. A shy and pretty wine that will drink well glass after glass. I was slowly taken by it. Excellent stuff 95/109
