2007 Te Mata Estate Elston Chardonnay. This wine blew me away when it was released with its mountainous sophistication. It was quite funny in tasting this wine yesterday that we came up with so many descriptors which ended up being mirrored by the blurb on the back label. The nose is packed full of fresh pineapple, almond and nougat. It is very expressive. The palate displays plenty of tension, with a taut frame and concentrated ripe pineapple and peach flavours. There is also creamy nougat type spiciness. Very linear and tight still, it is a wine that now seems to require some time in the bottle to fully unfold. Hold. 95+/109
