2003 Dry River Martinborough Gewürztraminer. This is a Christmas Eve tradition for us. This year we cracked a vintage with the reputation of being one of the best. In terms of appearance this wine is starting to gain a brilliant straw hue. The nose is delicate and integrated with hints of pineapple, mango, crystal ginger and lychee. The palate shows great restraint without losing the opulence of the variety. It is compact, detailed and precise with great balance between richness and definition. A multi layered textural palate offers up ginger, lychee and pineapple with only a hint of the common turkish delight component. It is heady without being over powering. It is such a class act, not showy; just happy in its own shoes. 97/109
