2007 Stonyridge Larose. I had an opportunity to try this latest release of one of New Zealand’s true icon Bordeaux blends. It is very dark and brooding in the glass. The nose is fragrant with notes of dried herb and mulberry/ brambly fruits. The palate is powerful and authoritive. Concentrated dry ripe stalky tannins provide grip and structure. It has shades of the 2000 vintage to it; a blocky grippy wine which needs time to soften and integrate. I don’t think it quite has the dark velvety fruit, the flamboyance or exuding density of a top vintage though. It should age well but perhaps at this stage looking like a lesser vintage of this label. At the current asking price I wasn’t tempted. 94+/109
