2008 Millton Opou Riesling. Gisborne really isn’t well set up for wine tourists, but our recent trip to Gisborne to climb Mt Hikurangi availed us with the opportunity to try wine at the premier Gisborne winery; Millton. Famous for Chenin Blanc and Riesling it was in fact the Riesling that stole the show. Just released this wine is very delicate and gentle. It is off dry in style, light and fresh with sweet citrus flavours and zesty notes. Some more time in the bottle should add some weight. It is a subtly complex wine which is immediately attractive and shows its breed. Not a common wine but worth tracking down 95+/109
