2007 Carrick Pinot Noir. There seems to be a definite project alight here. There are obvious signs that Carrick appears to be developing the structure of their wines with a lot more apparent tannin, and more savouriness on the palate. It doesn’t have the weight, depth and texture of a truly great NZ Pinot Noir but it is addressing one of the major criticisms of many Otago (and Marlborough) Pinot; its plain simplicity. The fruit in this wine is among the red or black cherry spectrum. The tannins are finely boned and elegant providing a light dusty grip. A well constructed wine that indicates its best days are still to come. I would keep it for another 18 months with the expectation it will fatten out a little and integrate further. It is not as generous as the 05 or 06 versions at present but I don't seem to mind. 94+/109
