2007 Craggy Range Le Sol Syrah. Immediately it is clear to me that this is a wine of evolution, and in many ways is light years in style away from the monumental 2002 vintage. The colour of this wine although described as “Opaque” to me seemed lighter in style a youthful crimson, the table not lost through the tilted glass. The nose is reserved but not completely shy offering up aromas of black plum and floral notes. The palate is gentle but serious with sweet blueberry like fruit, with mineral and floral elements and the slightest shade of fine pepper. It is a clean fresh wine with gentle vibrant acids wrapped in dusty warm tannins. No matter what the rhetoric, this is an elegant and refined vintage of Le Sol. It is fine and expressive with detail and definition and a multifaceted feel. It all begs the question; would smart money go on this over three bottles of 2007 Church Rd Reserve? I honestly do not think so but if your budget does not demand decisions of choice then fill your boots; this is a classy and stylish wine. More toward a Homage in style than the Craggy of old. If you want one, move fairly quickly they are selling quickly on the back of some outstanding reviews (not everything needs my nod it seems) 97/109
